Fairtrade fortnight took place in September this year, to mark 30th years of Fairtrade.

To celebrate the occasion, Horsham Fairtrade committee ran a special event in Swan Walk shopping centre, to bring Fairtrade into the limelight for shoppers of Horsham.

Armed with our giant banana costume, a huge crate of Fairtrade bananas and two purpose build bicycles from Chartwells, which can run smoothie makers by sheer pedal power, our volunteers set up an eye catching display in a prominent walkway of the shopping centre.

They had banana smoothies in continuous production from the moment the stand opened at 10am, through two re-stocks of bananas and milk, and right through til their last smoothie at 4pm.

It was such a successful awareness raising event, with 300 visitors engaged with during the day, 225 smoothies made my adults & children, using 75 fairtrade bananas and 30 pints of milk!
